On November 1st I will be running the New York City Marathon for the second time in support of The National Kidney Foundation as part of Team Kidney.

I became a kidney donor in February 2024 when my husband Scott needed a kidney transplant. Our sons Ford and Davis were just 4 and 2 years old at the time.

Last year, I decided to run the marathon 18 post months surgery. Running the NYC Marathon was a lifelong dream and it started out as a personal goal to prove to myself I could still be fit after having two babies and donating a kidney. What I didn’t anticipate at the time is that it would turn into so much more than a race for me.

When I shared my donation journey on social media, I was shocked by the number of friends who reached out privately to share their own battle with kidney disease or that of a family member or friend. I was also grateful and humbled by the outpouring of love and support.

The statistics are sobering - 37 million American adults are living with kidney disease. 1 in 3 people are at risk for kidney disease and  more than 1 in 7 people have it but aren’t aware. I’m not ok with those statistics.

On November 1st, I’ll be joining an incredible group of athletes including other kidney donors, transplant recipients, doctors and nurses, and others running on behalf of loved ones experiencing kidney disease.

The National Kidney Foundation supports individuals and families struggling with kidney disease, they fund research, they are looking for solutions. Join me in making continued advances possible by donating to my efforts!

Thank you for your support!

With love and gratitude,

Carolyn
