Liam Rischmiller

Who am I?
My name is Liam Rischmiller. I am the Director of External Philanthropy at the University of Kentucky's Sigma Pi fraternity.

I am also a patient of Chronic Kidney Disease at the age of 19.

If you told me that I would be living with a chronic illness 10 years ago, I would have laughed in your face. There was nothing to prepare me for how sudden and unannounced it was. My doctor put it best: it was like I was stuck by lightning twice.

I made a pledge to myself last year when I was diagnosed that I would do everything in my power to give back to those who have to struggle with any form of kidney illness. I also made it a goal to spread awareness to everyone I possibly can.

What is our organization doing?
Our chapter of Sigma Pi has always been dedicated to serving anyone and everyone through our philanthropic efforts. I have used my position to spread our focus to include a cause that not only I have a personal connection to, but many of my brothers do.

Whether its friends, family members, or strangers who live with CKD, we have committed to doing everything in our power to further the efforts of the National Kidney Foundation serving Kentucky, as well as the NKF in general.

We are hosting a charity walk to bring hope and courage to those who may be struggling silently with any type of kidney disease. It doesn't matter if you are a patient, a supporter, or someone who is curious, we want to provide a supportive network to all.
