My 2025 TCS New York City Marathon Fundraising Page
DJ Haskins
I began taking running seriously in the beginning of 2020, just around the time of the Covid shutdown. I promised myself that all of this time in isolation would not be for nothing. I promised myself I would come out on the other side better at something. That thing ended up being running. Many miles later, I have decided to take on the 2025 Marathon.
Why I would do such a thing is what you may be asking yourself. Well, my uncle is David Petterson, better known as David Rush. He is a motivational speaker, as well as a kidney educator, heavily involved in the Kidney Community. About 15 years ago, he was diagnosed with kidney failure, and my dad was gracious enough to give my uncle his kidney, preserving my uncle‘s life for a couple more years before that kidney failed. My uncle remains on home dialysis and is a respected advocate and spokesperson for home dialysis. His message and mindset have been to live with no limits, despite circumstance. "Wins Only" for short. This was all proven true when in 2009, he went on a 50 state tour, accompanied by his home dialysis machine.
This foundation is special to me and my family, as well as many others and I want to run for that. I want to be able to fundraise on behalf of a great cause, as well as run for something bigger than myself.
I have watched my uncle live his life with unforgiving happiness and genuine love despite his treacherous health battles. He is a tremendous human being and I idolize the way he carries himself. Although no one would ever know it, he does hard things everyday. I too, can do hard things, and will.
Thank you for all your support!
