Kidney disease has been a fact of life for the Paul family for well over a quarter-century.

In the early-1980s my Uncle Ronnie was diagnosed with kidney disease that would eventually lead to kidney failure and a transplant from his brother, my Uncle Steve. For 18 years, Uncle Steve's kidney kept Uncle Ronnie healthy. Unfortunately, in 2008 he needed another transplant. Uncle Ronnie's business partner and dearest friend, Kathy, offered one of her kidneys this time.
In June of 2017, my dad, Michael, learned his kidneys were failing and he needed a transplant. Thankfully, our cousin, Chris, was a perfect match and donated her kidney to my dad.
Sadly, not every case of kidney disease has a happy ending. After experiencing congestive heart failure and years of pulmonary problems, my grandpa - Pop Alan - went into kidney failure. After five years on dialysis, he passed away in October of 2012 from end-stage kidney failure.
I'm running to raise money for the National Kidney Foundation, to spread awareness and encourage kidney health, and to encourage organ donation.
