Why I Run.......
Most, if not all of you know someone who has been affected by Kidney disease in some way. For me, it is my mom. She has had health challenges all of her adult life, and has always handled them with such dignity and grace. Her strength has been a shining example for our family, being there for everyone else selflessly, every single day. When she began to have kidney failure and it became apparent that a kidney transplant would be needed, my first thought was that I wanted to be her donor. I am beyond blessed that we were a match and that I was able to give her this gift. It honestly was a gift for me, as I get to continue to spend time with my mom and watch her spend time with her grandkids and our family and all of her wonderful friends.
After our surgery, I felt the need to do more to give back. Running has been one of my favorite hobbies and I decided that I wanted to somehow combine it with raising funds for others who are handling the daily struggles of Kidney Disease. Hence, One Kidney, Fifty States was born.
I am running a race in all 50 states as a way to raise funds and awareness for Kidney Disease and Donation. So far, I've completed California, Nevada, Arizona, Utah, Florida and Illinois and am so grateful to have had both of my parents cheering me on. I could not be more excited to be able to run the New York Marathon this November with the National Kidney Foundation Team (Team Kidney Moves) to continue to raise funds and awareness for this deserving cause.
If there is anyone who you know who has been affected by Kidney Disease, please let me know so we can honor them as well.
I might be the one challenging myself to One Kidney in Fifty States, but I could not accomplish this goal without the incredible support of all of you.
Thank you for joining me on this journey!!
