This November, I am running the New York City Marathon for the National Kidney Foundation as part of Team Kidney and would love your support.

Why?
Right now, 37 million American adults are living with kidney disease. More broadly, 1 in 3 people are at risk for kidney disease and more than 1 in 7 people have it but aren’t aware. There are also over 90,000 people in the United States currently waiting for a kidney transplant.

I am running to support the National Kidney Foundation, who was the first to identify kidney disease as a distinct, treatable illness. They developed the staged system of kidney disease diagnosis and treatment – a worldwide standard today.  They continue to release and update treatment guidelines to improve patient care.

This is also a cause that is extremely personal to both my family and myself.  In February 2024, I became a kidney donor where I donated a kidney on behalf of my husband Scott who needed a kidney transplant.

So why run the marathon?  First of all, running the New York City Marathon has been a lifelong dream. It’s also to help demonstrate that as a donor my ability to be fit and active hasn’t changed although I only have one kidney. Any donation, big or small would be greatly appreciated and, if you aren’t in a position to donate, sending some good vibes on race day means just as much!

I can’t end this message without saying how eternally grateful both Scott and I are to the incredible medical team at NYU that helped us through both of our surgeries, the family and friends who supported us during recovery, and the many prayers that were said on our behalf. One of the biggest things that got me comfortable with donating was speaking with other living donors. If you or anyone in your network considers donating (either now or in the future), please know that I am always available as a resource. Thank you again for your support!
