Why I Run

I run for my mom, for Lynley, and for her family.

Eight years ago, my mom gave her friend Lynley one of her kidneys. Their friendship deepened through years of doctor appointments, dialysis sessions, and the long journey toward transplant. Lynley's transplant was successful, but their story opened my eyes to how many people are fighting this battle without that support system.

Right now, 37 million American adults are living with kidney disease. 1 in 3 people are at risk. More than 1 in 7 people have it but don't even know it yet.

I run because the National Kidney Foundation develops the treatment guidelines that save lives every day. I run because successful transplants are possible, because early detection changes everything, and because friendship can literally save lives.
